Having previously endured both success and the release of 3 critically acclaimed albums as the singer and songwriter in cult indie band Absentee, Dan Michaelson began his solo career at the ripe old age of 32 with his debut album Saltwater in 2009. It went down well and attracted a few nice reviews: Your ears naturally tune into Michaelson’s skill at putting words to the parts of relationships that usually stay silent. The cruel asymmetry of romance is addressed exquisitely, recalling the resigned grandeur of the Go-Betweens’ Robert Forster “ **** The Times “impressive – comes on like Smog fronting the songs of Ed Harcourt” Uncut Shortly after came Shakes in 2010.. “an intensely felt and sparsely drawn study of the beginnings and ends of relationships” **** Time Out “Spellbinding, genuinely heartbreaking songs.” The Quietus “A set of frighteningly good songs” **** The Stool Pigeon “A voice deeper and darker than most extended overdrafts – Michaelson is on endearingly poetic form” NME “An outstanding collection of quirky and bare to the bones songs” 8/10 Rocksound “Michaelson gets as close to a prodigy of Leonard Cohen as is tastefully possible. The album was intended as a reflection on the unique atmosphere of that area. “Michaelson is a master” The Times “100% Proof.” Mojo “Michaelson is a master of bleak atmosphere” Q “one of the finest contemporary chroniclers of the highs, lows and all points in between of emotional engagement” The Quietus. After the release of Sudden Fiction, Dan was asked to write with Johnny Flynn and Lorne Balfe (Inception/Lord of the Rings/Transformers) on a feature length film. When this was finished, He began work on his fourth album Blindspot. Blindspot is released 25.03.15 on the State51 Conspiracy label.
