Mike Makhalemele has been played on NTS in shows including South African Electronic Music, featured first on 5 July 2021. Songs played include I Remember You (Suhuphutso), My Thing and Togetherness.

Many consider the late Ratau Makhalemele to be one of South Africa's leading saxophonists. Playing professionally since the late '60s, Makhalemele made his widest impression as a member of the Drive, a group he formed with Henry Sithole in the 1970s. Aa a highly respected session player, Makhalemele has worked with Champion Jack Dupree, Joe Henderson, Curtis mayfield, and Clarence Carter. His greatest influence was the South African saxophonist Kippie Moeketsie. Makhalemele's debut solo album, Thabang, was released in 1990.

Makhalemele passed away on 6 May 2000.
