COTONOU
14:00 - 16:00

Based in Cotonou, Benin, which at the time was referred to as Dahomey, Albarika Records was founded by the French-born, Benin-based producer and entrepreneur, Emmanuel "Manu" Dibango, who had a significant influence on the local music scene. The label was instrumental in releasing records from some of the region's most prominent musicians during the golden age of African music. Many of the artists signed to Albarika Records were known for blending indigenous African rhythms with Western jazz, funk, and soul influences. This made their sound distinctive and part of a broader movement across West Africa during the 60s and 70s, as music became a form of social and political expression.

Floating Di Morel

Floating Di Morel

Floating Di Morel has been played on NTS shows including Blackest Ever Black, with Astonish Obviate first played on 27 February 2013.

Floating di Morel is probably the best rock‘n’roll band to ever come out of Germany after the 39 Clocks. Now you might think this is another stupid hype. It is not because the few critics that ever came to listen to one of the rare live performances were all flabbergasted. As usual everybody is looking for analogies. Here a few: Suicide, Free Jazz, Throbbing Gristle, Jesus & Mary Chain, Big Star, White-Light-Hysteria… all bands Floating di Morel might like but certainly do not copy in any manner. Please be ready for one of the strangest and most exciting acts from Berlin.

Filmmakers Dietmar Post & Lucia Palacios shot a 32 minute documentary at Floating di Morel's home studio. Also, play loud! will release for the first time ever the band's entire back catalogue.

Floating di Morel releases: (pl-06) said my say (lp/digital) (pl-09) more memory than now (digital) (pl-10) takna, pakna, g(k)ram… (digital) (pl-11) real people psych (digital)
