4 Позиции Бруно (trans. Chetyre Pozitsii Bruno, "4 Positions of Bruno") is a Russian experimental electronic band from Yekaterinburg.
The group was originally founded in 2002 by Aleksandr Sitnikov and Anton Klevtsov, being later joined by Nikolay Babak. In interviews, two seperate origin stories of the group's name have been given. According to one, "4 Positions of Bruno" is the name of a Romanian polka, a dance invented in Bucharest by choreographer Bruno Radulesco in the thirties of the twentieth century. The dance was performed by young men and old women, and symbolized intolerance to the withering of the flesh. According to another, Bruno is the main character of children's comics by Sitnikov and Klevtsov. A stuffed bear stuffed with all sorts of rubbish and nonsense. This stuffed animal can exist in four positions: contemplation, worship, acceptance and humility.
The group recorded their first material in the years 2002-2005, however they did not publish any of it until 2008. They have been releasing music ever since and as of today have released over 40 musical projects ever since their foundation. Their music is very diverse in styles; ranging from electronic to ambient to post-industrial and much more, being united mostly by their experimental nature. By 2014, Babak's activity in 4PB's output started decreasing. The same year, they released the album Я заказан (Ya zakazan, ''Someone put a hit out on me''), their first album to have more prominent vocals and lyrics, and arguably their most acclaimed work to date. Their latest album Два вперёд назад четыре (Dva vperyod nazad chetyre, ''Two forward, four back''') was released in 2023.
The artists are all involved in other musical projects too. From 2006 to 2014, Sitnikov and Babak made satirical hip hop music under the name Птицу Емъ and in 2015, Sitnikov and artist Olya Chernavskikh created the puppet musical project Порез на Собаке. All three members have also released solo material; Sitnikov under his own name (See Александр Ситников), Klevtsov under the name Ты23 and Babak under the name bigmammaa.
Former member Nikolay Babak tragically passed away from a drug overdose on 21 August 2023 at the young age of 35.
