Moudou Ould Mattalla

Moudou Ould Mattalla

Moudou Ould Mattalla has been played on NTS shows including Autotune the World w/ Christopher Kirkley, with Ouezn - Chaoueda first played on 16 December 2021.

Moudou Ould Mattalla is a great icon and artist from Mauritania, born in the city of Chenguetti in the early 1950’s. He is considered as one of the most charming and spiritual musicians. It was in his native city that he started composing his very first titles. During his hard work moments of composition and his performances, he was accompanied by an entirely female singing group called “Al'Mouna”. The latter is formed by four great women Fatimatou Mint Demine, Mama Mint Mallane, Fatma Mint Messoud and Dida Mint Bilal. This group reminds of the Touareg group, where women often play music and serve as a chorus as well. When it comes to guitar playing, Moudou always reminds us of the legend of Guitar Sahara music, the Malian Ali Farka Touré. In fact, the music of Moudou is a mixture of urban, rural, Arab, and Sahara sub-categories. During his teen age, Moudou was highly influenced by Pink Floyd. Europeans often find it pleasing to translate the lyrics of his songs which remind them of great memories of the Sahara of North Africa. The music of Moudou is a mixture of many secrets, including the Sahara which is a source of a great inspiration for poetry and art.
