DUBLIN comes from the word doubling (as in to double up). The group was formed by two childhood friends who decided to make an album. The concept was simple: make music against the trend- no pitch correction, no quantization, no looping. Everything would be done raw. We'd live or die by that philosophy. And so we were formed. We write spontaneously; thus the album was appropriately titled "Off the Cuff." A little information on the band members: Mike Cleary is your stereotypical drummer, a boozing lady lover who has a sweet and innocent side that very rarely comes out. His sharp understanding of music and raw skills make him an asset. Mike Palma is our bassist. A cross between bohemian and executive, he is always ready for the next adventure. He brings the funk and brings it hard, living to "drop the bass." Like his personality, his playing style is a cross between deep and funky slap bass and delicate melodic rhythm. Matt Mahoney hails from the fine state of Kansas. At first glance, he is just your average Jayhawk ready to get rowdy in Lawrence, but give him a guitar and you'll see how bad this man really is. Very few musicians have the gift he has: his musical soul sits at the apex of feeling and technicality and his unbelievable ear makes him irreplaceable. Steven Atou is a co-founder and the muscle that keeps the animal moving. Juxtaposed to the other co-founder, they create a perfect balance. His musical feeling is deep and his desire for meaningful lyrical content has proved to be invaluable. He is also a percussionist with hands that were designed to do just that. David J Issabey is the other co-founder, frontman and leader of DUBLIN. He composed, arranged and produced the entire album from A to Z. His business-first method of operating has made him the stabilizer and driving force of the group. His deep understanding of music on a variety of levels has allowed for Off the Cuff to be diverse record. Together, DUBLIN is truly a synthesis of rock, funk, blues, soul and jazz- with each genre representing each member respectively.
We've only said hello, hopefully you will too. Let's start the conversation.
