Magma’s first bassist, record label creator, producer and also solo artiste with one of France’s best progressive rock album ever. Before his tenure in Magma, Laurent Thibault had played with Zorgones as far back as 68, where he had met names like Aphrodite’s Child, and had recorded an album that was not released at the time. When Zorgones broke up, Thibault formed Magma with Chritian Vander and Francis Moze (met during a pop tour ended on the first concert, the entire backing band getting fired for not playing up to the pop songstress), but he would leave in Aug 70 and return to university. He then became a member leadert of the legendary Moving Gelatine Plates
Tibault was then offered a job as producer (notably Alain Markusfeld’s first two albums) in the international label Barclay, but he left to found Theleme records, signing up Ergo Sum, Mor and Zabu and once it folded, he ended up buying the successful Hérouville studios >>the famous Chateau D’Ysaster from Jethro Tull. By 78, Thibault started working on his own album, based on Douanier Rousseau’s naïve painting style (hence the album’s unusual artwork), but the Hérouville estate was put up for sale a few weeks after. Thibault spent fortunes in courts, trying to retain his rights on it, but didn’t get satisfaction, but and managed to create a new studio Couleurs by the end of that decade
