Coming of age musicians Alex Karpicke (guitar, vocals, ukulele) and Brita Stifler (cello, vocals) together formed The Meadowlarks in northern Michigan, thoughtfully crafting their niche and cultivated a sound for themselves through the influences the land and the people of the region have offered.
Constantly surrounded by influential music, the duo certainly follow in those steps, while building something distinctive and authentic. Their unique musical style, orchestral murmurs and poetic musings put an individual in mind of the lush, natural beauty Michigan has to offer. Singing about days spent indoors with old vinyl records, roaming packs of wolves, silent mysterious owls and families who have nothing but one another. You can nearly taste the sweet air of spring and feel the brisk autumn winds of the picturesque Michigan they sing about.
While based in Grand Rapids, MI, The Meadowlarks released their first 5-song EP entitled "Owl Year" in 2008.
Live performances are often presented with additional help from close friends Matt Boike (piano, guitar, glockenspiel), Katie Morabito (vocals), and Jon Aren (drums)
"Magic in attics, peppermint tea, & sounds a moon might make."
