Bob Culbertson is a master of the Chapman Stick. In his 30 + years of performing, recording, teaching, and selling well over 100,000 records,Culbertson has garnered the respect of fans and peers alike. Not only is Culbertson a rare gem of a musician, his instrument of choice is a rarity in itself. The Chapman Stick is a multi stringed instrument (10 or 12 strings) played by "tapping" the strings rather than strumming or picking to produce it's unique sound. Culbertson has released 7 albums to date of solo Stick music. Recorded without any overdubs and a minimum of effects, his recordings have been called by many as representing "the purest sound of the Stick". An album of considerable note would be his recording entitled "Acoustick Dawn" .This offering was recoded entirely on Bob's own Acoustick,an acoustic version of the Chapman Stick developed by Stick inventor Emmett Chapman and master luthier Craig Anderson. The album is a hallmark of virtuoso two handed tapping playing and proves that the technique is equally at home on the acoustic instrument as well as the electric. Originally a guitarist,Bob began playing the Stick in 1978 after a meeting with Emmett Chapman.
