- is an Anglo/Belgium octet committed to presenting new work alongside landmark modern repertoire.

Formed in 2003 by Joanna Bailie and Matthew Shlomowitz, + - is distinguished by its interest in avant-garde, improvisational, and experimental open instrumentation pieces such as Stockhausen's 1963 classic, from which the group takes its name.

- has been broadcast on BBC Radio 3 and London's Resonance FM and performed in England at Cutting Edge, Whitechapel Gallery, Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival, Breton Hall, and internationally at Nadine-Plateau (Brussels), Borealis Festival (Bergen), Stanford University (California), St Petri Dom (Bremen), Tot en Met (Amsterdam) and Logos (Gent).

Composers who have written pieces for the group include Bryn Harrison, Stefan Van Eycken, James Saunders, David Helbich, Erik Ulman, Trond Reinholdtsen and Øyvind Torvund. + - is the resident ensemble at Rational Rec, a multidisciplinary arts platform which takes place every month at the Bethnal Green Working Men's Club.
