Maggie Sansone

Maggie Sansone has been played on NTS shows including Kit Grill, with Drummond Castle first played on 17 July 2022.

Maggie Sansone is one of America’s premier hammered dulcimer recording artists, and also known for her chamber ensemble arrangements and new compositions that is an innovative blend of ancient and new sounds that cross over into today’s contemporary acoustic genres. Although Sansone performs on a variety of instruments, her primary focus is the unique multi-stringed hammered dulcimer, often called a melody-drum. The sound of her wooden mallets dancing across over seventy five strings of her hammered dulcimer brings a unique and haunting beauty to her music. Featured on CBS-TV "Sunday Morning" and frequently heard on National Public Radio, her new CD Wind Drift: Celtic grooves, mystic moods was highlighted on Fiona Ritchie’s The Thistle & Shamrock who said “Maggie’s music has been at the heart of a musical movement that explores rhythms and styles of music from Celtic and American roots and Maggie Sansone sets us off on a journey, and with hands across the water reveals a great variety of authentic acoustic delights." Her recordings, compositions, productions of Celtic and Christmas concerts, and collaborations with Ballet Theatre of Maryland, Teelin School of Irish Dance, Sony/BMG, Time-Life Records, XM Radio and Ken Burns PBS documentaries have drawn wide praise. She was honored to receive The ANNIE award for Performing Arts (Maryland) , and over a dozen WAMMIE nominations and awards for music instrumentalist and the Maggie’s Music recod label (Washington Area Music Association). As s founder and CEO of Maggie's Music, her label now features over 55 recordings ( including Sansone's own fourteen recordings) and sold over one million recordings worldwide since her label began with Sansone’s first recording…a 30 minute cassette recording recorded in a living room in Oakland, CA
