The Scientific Americans has been played on NTS shows including Music To Ease Your Disease, with Water Underground first played on 23 July 2022.

The Scientific Americans were a punk-wave/synth punk/dub band formed in the late 1970's in Amherst, Massachusetts. They existed in numerous incarnations up until their dissolution in early 1983. The band played live a few hundred times but might be most famous for sponsoring scads of bands at a club called RAHARS in Northampton Massachusetts and giving the town a kick in the musical ass. To make their finances work, they would open the shows and use the Sci Ams' PA system. They played Boston, New York, Toronto, New England (generally) and south as far as Washington DC. They even opened for Suicide in NYC.

Over the course of their existence they released a 7" entitled "Beyond Rational Thought" (1978), a 10" flexi called "Beyond Fiscal Distress" (1980), the Some Dumb Fucks cassette in 1981, each featuring a handmade cover by member Sean "Alias" Elias (later re-released as the "Load and Go!" cassette on ROIR) and contributed to compilations on both Ladd-Frith (Psyclones, Blackhouse) and Ding Dong Tapes (Bene Gesserit, The Legendary Pink Dots, Van Kaye & Ignit) from Holland.

Their first 7" differs in sound from the later more stripped-down, drum machine/synth-driven material they became better known for. Generally, it's quirky punk-wave with synth flourishes and a few odd touches. Also, on this record is the first appearance of their cover of Epp Opp Ork from the Jetson's television show - a song that was later remixed for the Ding Dong comp. and even remixed into a dub version for an OP Magazine flexi.
