A pioneer in the distinctly Japanese sonics of "environmental" sound design, composer Takashi Kokubo began his solo career in the early 1980s, making synthesizer compositions inspired by classical music in the vein of fellow Japanese composer Isao Tomita, but across the following decades, his productions would pay deep homage to the sounds of the natural world and its spiritually soothing properties – as both inspiration for his music, and as a prominent feature in the music itself.

Sylvia Juncosa was known in the '80s-90s as an aggressive, individual lead guitarist in the alternative / metal / acid rock style.

From Los Angeles, Juncosa began her career as keyboardist for the Leaving Trains before forming her own group To Damascus. To Damascus released two independent albums, during which time Juncosa also played in SWA, a punk-metal band featuring former Black Flag bassist Chuck Dukowski.

In 1988 Juncosa went solo, releasing an album "Nature" on SST and moving toward a more metal sound. Two more albums followed, "One Thing" and "Is", before she disappeared from the music world in 1995.
