There are three bands by this name, one punk and two jazz.
JAZZ: Guitarist Chieli Minucci and percussionist George Jinda performed under the name "Special Delivery", in the 1980s. They later changed their name to "Special EFX". Special delivery included Dutch flautist Chris Hinze, Chieli Minucci on guitar, George Jinda on percussion, Fernando Saunders on bass, Steve Robbins on piano & synthesizers, J.T. Lewis on drums and Robbie Kondor on synthesizers.
PUNK: Special Delivery is a bunch of crazy punk musicians from the Detroit area. Originally forming under the name "Charis" (Greek for Grace) about 3 years ago, they found a unique sound by blending turntables and effects with punk rock. Now with the dawning of their new CD (self-titled), they're rocking out like never before. Bringing their fun energy combined with a tight message of purpose to the stage every time they play.
When asked where the ideas for the songs on Special Delivery's latest self-title release came from, lead singer Patrick Bossio recalls driving home on a long road trip from Nowhere, Pennsylvania… "I remember sitting there in my car on I-80 trying to keep myself from falling asleep. I had another 2 hours of driving to go before getting to Detroit, and I was about to pass out. Right when my eyes were almost shut for good, I began mumbling some random giberish. Partially dazed I started not just mumbling but singing the gibberish to this upbeat tune that randomly came to me in my half-dreaming state. All of sudden I woke up, rolled down my window, let the cold wind hit my face @ 85 mph, and started screaming this random song that made absolutely no sense into the void outside my window. Yea people thought I was a freak, but hey, I ended up staying awake the rest of the way home. When I arrived at my cave, I just ran to the guitar, put some music to the tune, refined the insane lyrics, and thus our song Cowardly Lion was born."
This story rings a certain tone that resounds strongly with the music of Special Delivery. Upbeat, catchy, and something that you'll be singing to in your car stereo for a while. "We just want to rock people's socks off, like they've never been rocked before." says the band. Yet behind the fun and the creative rock style they have, comes a message of purpose that is the center-fold theme within their music. Zak Ortz (keyboardFX/Vocals/Turntables) states, "All of our songs are inspired by our life experiences, and our Creator who's had the biggest impact on our lives." Special Delivery brings a message of hope with all their tunes to reach what they consider an "overlooked generation".
