Zzzzzzzzzzzz… Shhhh… There's a baby sleeping in the house!
Before Spotify, and before Napster; those of us with an appetite for weirdo, left-field, alternative, underground hip hop would trade dubbed cassette tapes through janky Angelfire-built websites. Connecting w/ eachother via chat rooms like AOL's "Hip Hop Music'', SOHH (Search Online Hip Hop), UGHH.com; or on message boards like the Living Legends forum, the Heiro message board, the Anticon message board, LA2THEBAY forum. We’d spend hours scouring websites like HipHopSite.com and ThaLandz.com for RealAudio files of new underground hip hop; and pour over new releases at online retailers like Access Music, Sandbox Automatic, and B-Boy Kingdom; always looking for the most obscure rare underground rap tapes. A lot of music from that era never made it onto streaming. This show is dedicated to the lost golden age of underground hip hop & the internet. Enjoy.

Jakob Battick (born May 18th, 1989 in Bangor, ME, USA) is an American songwriter and visual artist. In the early 2010s they formed the experimental electronic group Afraid, releasing one album, 'Sinister Vibes', via the underground tape label Crash Symbols, as well as a single featuring guest vocals from ex-Swans member Jarboe. In 2018 they began releasing music under their own name and have since released four full length LPs, including one collaborative album with the American microtonal/drone duo Tongue Depressor. In 2022 Jakob began working with the Czech underground label Stoned to Death and also began touring in Europe. Slow Motion Summer, their latest album and most exploratory work to date, marks a radical distillation of and focus toward the key preoccupations in Jakob's discography: trance, hypnosis, the occult, and the illusory nature of time.
