The first incarnation of Korn was a Funk Metal/Hardcore Punk/Thrash band known as L.A.P.D. At first L.A.P.D. stood for 'Love and Peace Dude'; however they later changed the name to 'Laughing As People Die' in order to be taken more seriously as a band. The group consisted of James "Munky" Shaffer, Reginald "Fieldy" Arvizu, David Silveria and lead singer Richard Morrill, who later left the band, and the remaining members changed their name to Creep, adding guitarist Brian Welch. After adding singer Jonathan Davis (former frontman of Sex Art) in 1993, they began calling themselves Korn, styling their name with a distinctive backwards letter "R".
