The Butterflys

The Butterflys

The Butterflys has been played on NTS shows including Geologist Presents: The O'Brien System, with Good Night Baby first played on 2 March 2023.

The Butterflys were a Brooklyn, NY based group of the Red Bird label. They have often been misidentified as a studio group, containing Ellie Greenwich.

The lead singer is Paulette Holland, accompanied by Mary Thomas and Myrna Giraud, formerly of the Crystals and Carmen Santiago.

The co-writers of "I Wonder" are Jeff Barry, Ellie Greenwich and Phil Spector. Spector previously recorded two versions of this song, one by The Ronettes and the other by The Crystals. The Ronettes version surfaced on their Philles LP, "Presenting the Fabulous Ronettes". The Crystals version was released only in England, and managed to climb into England's Top 40. The Butterflys version was recorded and released in the fall of 1964.

The Butterflys have two other singles to their credit. One, "Huckleberry Finn", under their original name of The Buttons (Ember 1100) and the first of their two Red Bird singles, the mid-chart hit, "Goodnight, Baby", co-written by Jeff Barry, Ellie Greenwich and Steve Venet.
