Awe is something you feel when confronted with forces beyond your control: nature, the cosmos, chaos, human error, hallucinations.

Jo Jo Bennett

Jo Jo Bennett has been played on NTS shows including Record Store Rotation: Flashback Records, with Cantelope Rock first played on 21 July 2015.

moodisc records was harry mudie's label, who may be "the jamaican burt bacharach" by all means. his productions were tight but still cozy including strings arrangements recorded in london. i am not too fond of productions with violins messing up along the song ("the reggae strings" album is a good example of what is very wrong about reggae and strings), but harry mudie was certainly above the rest. probably these may be the grooviest productions in jamaica along derrick harriott and his crystal label.

"ten steps to soul" is a jamaican proto-funk tune… beware, there is a little 15 secs (almost inaudible) intro before the tune starts… enjoy!

joseph "jo-jo" bennett started his musical career at the age of 10 when he enrolled at alpha boys' school in kingston, jamaica. after graduation he played as lead trumpeter with the jamaica military band for quite a while before being courted by byron lee & the dragonnaires, he recorded several albums with them before choosing to stay in canada after the group’s impressive show at expo 67.

in 1970 while on hiatus in his jamaica, bennett released his first and only album "groovy joe" while performing live and doing studio work for numerous record companies. He had several 7" hits while at home, his most memorable "leaving rome" (comments section) hit charts on an international level.
