The Janáček Quartet was founded in 1947 by students of the Brno Conservatoire.
The quartet consists of Jiri Travnicek, Adolf Sykora, Jiri Kratochvil, and Karel Krafka. In 1955 they started an intense programme of foreign tours, and soon won renown around the world.
