Born in 1973 in Dakar, Pape Cheikh Diouf comes from a Guewel (griot) family from the Siné-Saloum delta in southwestern Senegal.

A veteran of the band Lemzo Diamono, Pape Diouf made his solo debut in 1998 and, with the help of his band, La Génération Consciente, revitalized the classic Dakar m’balax sound.
