"Карибасы"/"Caribace" (reduction of "Карибские асы"/"The Caribbean aces") is one of St. Petersburg's cult groups in russian reggae culture. It formed in 1987 when Philipp Nikanorov (Philja) met Dmitry Vasiljev (Dim Dimych). At first "Карибасы" played ska, then reggae and dub music. In 1999 the group released their first studio album. It consisted of 10 dub compositions. Later they released 5 more albums. "Карибасы" connect both Petersburg mood and Jamaican nostalgia in their creativity. They lay quiet melodies on a fast rhythm.
Band members: Dmitry Vasiljev - bass, guitars, keys, programming; Philipp Nikanorov - lyrics, vocals, guitars, programming (died from cancer 02.05.2007); Dmitry Fedosejev - keys; Daniil Kalashnik - guitars, domra, keyz, programming.
Musicians participated in some releases: Arkady Shamaev - synths; Fedor Mashendjinov - drums.
