Johannes Kalitzke (born February 12, 1959 in Cologne) is a German composer and conductor.

Kalitzke studied from 1967 to 1977 with Jeanette Chero piano and from 1974 to 1976 Church Music in Cologne, from 1978 to 1981 at the Cologne Academy of Music Piano (with Aloys Kontarsky), conducting (Wolfgang von der Nahmer) and composition (York Höller), later electronic Music at Ulrich Humpert. 1982/83 by studies at IRCAM with Vinko Globokar followed by a scholarship from the German National Academic Foundation.

Between 1984 and 1990 he worked as musical director and then as chief conductor at the Gelsenkirchen-based musical theater in the area. In 1986 he became head of the Forum for New Music in the footsteps of Carla Henius, 1991, he was artistic director and conductor of musikFabrik. Since 1996 he teaches inter alia at the Darmstadt summer courses and conducts Dirigierseminare at various colleges and the Conducting Forum of the German Music Council. Kalitzke today. Internationally as a conductor and as a composer regular at orchestras and ensembles of contemporary music festivals and opera houses such as the Opera Unter den Linden in Berlin, the Stuttgart Opera House or the Paris Opera and the Salzburg Festival

His first opera, "Report on the death of the musician Jack Zoo" was performed at the Munich Biennale 1996, in the federal state of Schleswig-Holstein composed Kalitzke his second opera "Molière or the hangman of the Comedians" (premiered in Bremen in 1998, as well as "Inferno "2004). 2007 Kalitzke received an opera commission for "The Possessed" by Witold Gombrowicz (Theater an der Wien). The first performance was there on 19 February 2010. His next opera project after EAPoe is realized in the season 2014/15 in Heidelberg.
