East River Pipe is the name under which Fred Cornog (aka FM Cornog) records. Cornog was born in Suffolk, Virginia, and raised in Summit, New Jersey. After succumbing to alcoholism and becoming homeless, Cornog relocated to New York where he survived by busking.
