3) S.O.S. were a short lived Boston hardcore band in the vein of The Suicide File, Modern Life Is War, Quicksand, etc. S.O.S. evolved past youth crew hardcore of the day into a more inspirational entity, with intelligent lyrics and a rock feel that that raised the bar above the status quo of hardcore. After selling through hundreds of cassette tape demos on their own, S.O.S. featured an exclusive track on the classic Lockin' Out Records "Sweet Vision" Compilation.

Although all three men were saxophonists and the band is commonly thought of as a 'saxophone trio', they were much more than that, as this period found John Surman experimenting with synthesizers, sequencers and keyboards, while Alan Skidmore was a very able drummer; anyone expecting three saxes at once at all times will be very surprised when they hear the heavy synthesizer parts mixed with driving drums and blowing sax lines.
