Yuri Honing: tenor saxophone Tony Overwater: double bass Joost Lijbaart: drums
These three musicians form one of the most successful Dutch jazz groups of today: the Yuri Honing Trio. Yuri Honing played and/or recorded with artists such as Pat Metheny, Scott Colley, Paul Bley, Charlie Haden and Vince Mendoza, but also with renowned Dutch musicians such as pianist Misha Mengelberg and cellist Ernst Reijseger. The rest of the Yuri Honing Trio consists of Tony Overwater, one of Holland's finest bass players (double bass ànd electric bass) and Joost Lijbaart, one of the best and most innovative drummers in Holland.
The Yuri Honing Trio, founded in 1990, made their international breakthrough in 1996, with the release of their CD 'Star Tracks', an album based on pop songs, later followed by 'Sequel'. Both albums reached sales far beyond any expectation and gave the trio a place in every jazz encyclopaedia published since. In 2003 they released 'Orient Express' which was nominated for an Edison (Dutch Grammy), bringing together classical Arab music and European progressive jazz, by inviting remarkable young musicians from the Middle East. In 2005 the trio presents 'Alive', their first-ever live album, recorded at the famous Bimhuis in Amsterdam. While touring in more than 30 countries around the world, the Yuri Honing Trio built a unique personal style which is based on jazz, pop music and non-western musical traditions.Yuri Honing: tenor saxophone Tony Overwater: double bass Joost Lijbaart: drums
