Joy is forever entwining a song with memory. Joy is the curiosity of the patterns of a shell. Joy is losing sense of self in the rhythm of a drum beat. Joy is looking back to see how far you’ve come. Joy is a beautiful droning sound, tying you to the present. Joy is irreverent NPC dialogue in 90s video game. Joy is observing a friend transmute emotion into sound through their voice or instrument. Joy is listening to a song for the first time and realizing it’s sampled in another song you’ve heard many times. Joy is looking out the window of the plane after a good holiday, knowing you’re forever changed, and that you get to sleep in your own bed tonight. Joy is quiet and small sometimes, but still good.

Miguel de Deus

Miguel de Deus

Miguel de Deus has been played on NTS shows including Whirldfuzzz, with Fabrica De Papéis first played on 15 February 2018.

Miguel de Deus was a Brazilian Soul vocalist and guitar player. He was one of the most versatile musicians of the 1970s, though largely unknown to the general public. He was born in Ilheus, in the state of Bahia, and died in Campinas, state of Sao Paulo, on May 18th 2007.

In 1969, he founded the band “Os Brazões” in Rio de Janeiro, that mixed rock and psychedelia with African elements. The band played with singers Gal Costa, Tom Ze and Jards Macale.

In 1974, he founded the band "Assim Assado", a psychedelic caricature of the famous band Secos e Molhados. Their music mixed progressive rock, soul music, samba and baiao.

In 1977, invited by Copacabana Records, Miguel de Deus recorded his only solo album: "Black Soul Brothers", considered a synthesis of Brazilian Black music of the 1970s.
