Mappa Mundi

Mappa Mundi

Mappa Mundi has been played on NTS over 30 times, featured on 28 episodes and was first played on 18 August 2015.

This is rock music played by a chamber ensemble or chamber music played by a rock band. Depending.

Under the leadership of Songwriter, Singer and Trumpet player, Adam Levine, Mappa Mundi plays in the mode of other current Chamber Pop acts such as the Magnetic Fields, Mirah, Devotchka, the Decemberists, Andrew Bird, David Byrne, Regina Spektor and Joanna Newsom. They call equally on New York's art-rock and post-punk traditions for taut and snarky songcraft as well as on Bach, Debussy, Bernstein, and Glass for colorful, lush harmonies and intricate counterpoint. Born out of the wreckage of the 20th century, Mappa Mundi always approaches their music with a wild and reckless abandon.

Adam has been playing and writing music on his own – as well as with various bands – from a very early age. In 2007, it quickly became apparent that acoustic/orchestral instruments were the best suited to play the unique music that he had been work-shopping for so many years. After going through a number of different iterations of bands, he eventually pulled together the talent of his friends and compatriots from the various corners of New York's musical map: from Classical to New Music, from Rock to Old World, finally giving birth to Mappa Mundi.
