Sounds of the Dawn is a monthly two hour session through new age, ambient, environmental, meditation and relaxation cassettes from the seventies to the nineties. Tune in and zone out.
Songs of liberation and solidarity for oppressed peoples of the world in the fight for self-determination and anti-imperialism. This mix was made by Sidhartta Talukdar, a Chakma sound artist and record collector living in Berlin. The Chakmas are a marginalized group of indigenous people in the Chittagong Hill Tracts of Bangladesh, who for decades have been undergoing a slow genocide by Bengali settlers backed by the corrupt military. Positive Flow is ultimately a solo project with the all the songwriting, playing and production taken care of by producer and multi-instrumentalist Jesse Reuben Wilson and featuring a slew of talented and respected guest artists.
Jesse has been on the scene for over a decade releasing records under various monikers from Ultravibe to Stratospheric for labels such as Revco, Internal Bass and Trumethod.
This particular album project "Positivity" features the irresistibly evocative vocal talents of soul diva Donna Gardier - an acclaimed vocalist and songstress in her own right having released solo albums through Virgin and Dome Records. She was a key member of funk outfit Raw Stylus and completed an 18 month world tour as part of Sting's backing band alongside vocalist Joy Rose.
Other key vocal talents added to the Positive Flow panorama are the hugely talented Zena Edwards who featured on the recent Gum Drop album and rapper/producer Breis. The other master ingredient is backing vocals performed by the illustrious Heidi Levo who has worked with Eska, IG Culture to name a few.
Although it's difficult to "pigeon hole" music these days Positive Flow, you could say is really firmly rooted in the nu-soul/nu-jazz arena leaning towards brukbeat with elements of house and hip hop thrown into the mix.
There is a heavy emphasis on the blend of organic instrumentation and electronica including cello/strings performed by maestro Andy Nice (Instrumental, Outside …), jazz flute from highly respected and long time session player Gary Barnacle, trumpet from BBC award-winning jazz trumpeter Colin Steele and Stephen Dawson and percussion from the legendary Robin Jones (Sade and Tito Puente) and Nick Woodmansey (Emanative).
"Positive Flow" action has already been occurring with their album sampler already getting very favourable feedback and support from: Domu, Atjazz, Michael Rütten, Rainer Truby, Michael Reinboth, Alex Attias, Toshio Matsuura and many more.
"Positivity" their European debut album reflects what Positive Flow are about - carefully crafted songs backed by dance-floor sensibility and high production skills setting them firmly on the field as a key player on the scene.
