This episode of Japanese Jazz Week we explore the catalog of pianist Masabumi Kikuchi. Masabumi was born in Tokyo in 1939, and lived his early life in World War II and post-war Japan. He studied music at the Tokyo Art College High School, and worked with musicians such as Sonny Rollins, Miles Davis, Mal Waldron & Joe Henderson. David Wingo is an American film composer, known for his score of Jeff Nichols' awards-winning Take Shelter and most recently, Mud. He has worked with other acclaimed directors such as David Gordon Green, Jared Hess, Craig Zobel, and Todd Rohal.

Wingo has also been active with his band Ola Podrida for several years. Their most recent album, GHOSTS GO BLIND was released in April 2013.

2014 will be the busiest year of Wingo’s career yet with several films he scored coming out, beginning with the World Premiere of Margaret Brown’s doc THE GREAT INVISIBLE and the US Premiere of David Gordon Green’s JOE (which Wingo collaborated on with Jeff McIlwain) at the SXSW Film Festival on March 9.
