After spending a mini-lifetime dancing his way round the clubs of the world, Waterson made his first foray into life as a recording artist with 'Strip Down' on seminal UK house label Junior Boys Own. It came about after he provided live vocals to the sets of Smokin' Jo and they decided to make a record together. It became quite the after-hours affair with support from Roger Sanchez, Tom Stephan and DJ Paulette.
Next up was a solo demo called 'Fa Fa Feel', the first track he ever made on his newly purchased Macbook and Garageband. It slotted into the tastemaker top tens from Shield, Nico de Ceglia, John Fleming et.al. and got licensed to Oxyd with remixes from X-Press 2, Sgt Slick, Oliver Lang and more but mysteriously remains un-released (cue the Twilight Zone theme) - who knows though, it may be lurking round the corner ready to pounce!
Third in line was a Pete Tong discovered track called 'I Love Linda'. Waterson won Pete's bedroom producer competition on YouTube and the song went on to appear in the top tens of Beatport, iTunes and all the major download stores worldwide, as well support from Freemasons, Stonebridge, Nightstylers and more.
Global appearances at Lovebox, Global Gathering, Home, Crobar, Ministry of Sound, Turnmills, fabric and Vega followed, all the while a wee track called ‘When You Tell Me’ had got blog tongues wagging, including an Ibiza Buzz Chart entry on DMC. This attracted the attention of hotshot A&R Ross Allen (London Grammar, DJ Shadow, Silkie) and allowed Waterson to work on a full length solo album at Andrew Hale’s north London studio, Owlspace.
He also collaborated on ‘Deep In Vogue’ with Victoria Wilson James, Honey Dijon, Terry Farley, Tom Stephan and Sebastian Manuel, scoring top ten in the UK club chart. Plus he co-wrote and produced ‘Five Takes (A Song About Andy) for Bille Ray Martin, receiving tons of online love, artistic career satisfaction and number 8 on the iTunes electronic chart.
So, album in the background, first track from these latest sessions is called ‘Trouble’ and has proven rather popular online, with blogs from Acid Stag, girlsboysartpleasure and Pop Actually. It even got a lovely 7/10 from Mixmag!
Next up is a re-working of 'When You Tell Me' in partnership with KDA. Waterson and he met on the dancefloor, bonded over a love of the Def Mix sound, avant-garde Japanese production and staying up late, and are currently working on a whole slew of new tracks together…
