"Following a mysterious absence of several years, Kaman Leung comes back to Earth in the epic instrumental action-adventure hip hop album "Lacrimal," a soaring new chapter in the saga of one of the world's most beloved Swedish Chinese Hip Hop producers now exiled in Norway. While an old enemy plots to render him powerless once and for all, Kaman faces the heartbreaking realization that the music he loves, Hip-Hop, has moved on with her life. Or has it? Kaman's bittersweet return challenges him to bridge the distance between them while finding a place in a society that has learned to survive without him. In an attempt to protect the music he loves from cataclysmic destruction, Kaman embarks on an epic journey of redemption that takes him from the depths of the ocean to the far reaches of outer space."- Clark Kent, Daily Planet 2006. Chloe Sullivan added to this report. Kaman Leung is most known for his electronic hip hop sound signature that became popular in the past years. With his debut album "Lacrimal," Leung returns to a dubby and abstract aural excursion. While Leung is probably better known for his bassdriven hip hop beats, this nine track album journey finds him waist-deep in arctic electronic dub soundscapes. But Leung adds enough new elements to the genre -- from walls of mechanical noise, to subtle melodica lines, soulful detroit synths, hard syncopated boom bap beats, and analog basslines -- to keep this release deep and demanding your attention listen after listen.
Kaman Leung is the only Swedish Chinese producer who made abstract electronic hip-hop beats for the past decade. After a trilogy series of eps for his own Lacerated recordings imprint out in the UK and heavy instrumental hip hop anthems with Swedish producer Gravity for A PMS plan a few years back, which was featured on DJ Krushs mix cd. Today, Leung delivers a dense and saturated hip hop sound for Tokyo label Z5 recordings.
Kaman used to be resident Dj at MF Elektro where he dj the whole spectrum of electronic music. Now Kaman plays together with former Fabric resident Electric Lane at a party called Masquerade.
