Peter Christopherson

Peter Christopherson

Peter Christopherson has been played over 20 times on NTS, first on 17 August 2015. Peter Christopherson's music has been featured on 30 episodes.

Peter Martin Christopherson, a.k.a. Sleazy (February 27, 1955 - November 25, 2010) was best known as a member of the influential British avant-garde bands Throbbing Gristle, Psychic TV and Coil. Besides producing music he was also a video director and designer, and former member of the influential British design agency Hipgnosis.

In the 1970s, as a member of Throbbing Gristle, he was one of the founders of the infamous Industrial Records, which was instrumental in creating the genre known as Industrial music. Along with Throbbing Gristle member Chris Carter, Christopherson claims to have dreamed of crafting a custom made a keyboard-triggered sampler before the first sampler (Fairlight) was available in UK.

After Throbbing Gristle disbanded he co-founded Psychic TV with TG member Genesis P-Orridge. After Psychic TV's first two albums Christopherson left the band together with John Balance to form Coil. It was in Coil that Christopherson's creative talent became most apparent. Coil lasted just under 23 years until the death of John Balance, after which Christopherson then produced music under the name The Threshold Houseboys Choir and Soisong, the latter being a collaboration with Ivan Pavlov. Shortly before his death he participated in the reforming of Throbbing Gristle, which then mutated into X-TG.
