Candidate

Candidate has been played on NTS over 10 times, featured on 15 episodes and was first played on 10 October 2016.

Candidate are a folk-influenced indie band from the UK, comprising brothers Joel and Alex Morris, and Ian Painter; the band previously included drummer Chris White. They released five albums on their own record label, Snowstorm. Their debut album, Taking On The Enemy's Sound, came out in April 2000 and was followed by Tiger Flies in January 2002. Nuada, the band’s third album, was released in October 2002. Inspired by the soundtrack to the film The Wicker Man, this album was described by Q Magazine as “…just about the best available bridge between lo-fi Americana and the woody thrum of archaic Britfolk”. A track from this album, Song of the Oss, was used as the theme music for the BBC TV Johnny Vegas comedy series Ideal. The Skylon, a complex and graceful sky-scraping structure painstakingly built on London’s South Bank as part of the Festival Of Britain in 1951 and demolished soon afterwards, is used as a central theme of the band’s fourth album and a metaphor for a relationship gained and then lost. This album, released in April 2004, was given the title Under The Skylon. The band's fifth (and so far final) album, Oxengate, was released in 2007.

Candidate is a currently active Brooklyn, NY based rock band, often described as Bends-era Radiohead making out with The Replacements. To date they have released one album, A New Life. Candidate's songs are catchy, poetic, passionate and concerned with heartbreak, heartache, survival and triumph.

Candidate were a French synth / electro / pop duo from the 80’s, made up of Cécile (vocals, composition, keyboards) and Bidou (guitars, composition, vocals, keyboards, programming).

Cécile's sexy, sultry voice paired with Bidou's acidic and driving guitar riffs, supported by the ever present, third permanent member of the band, a TR 707 drum machine is radiating the minimalist spirit and electric sounds.

In 1985 Candidate released split cassette and split 7inch with another French group Gangrène, on experimental French label Permis De Construire. Their most famous work is the LP Side By Side released by Dum Dum Records in 1987.

After few expressionist live sets, tours of France, Belgium, Switzerland, Germany; and appearances on local TV between 1987-1989, have earned them recognition and a reputable following at home and abroad.

Recently the German label Novatune released Vote Don't Vote, a collection of unpublished 1987-1990 songs.

Candiate played melodic emotional music using fuzzy guitars, walkie-talkies and violins. They had a release in 1997, Simple Harmonic Motion, on Abridged Records. They have been compared to Braid, Clikitat Ikatowi, and the Pixies.
