Velocette has been played on NTS over 10 times, featured on 11 episodes and was first played on 9 November 2016.

1) Not too long after the demise of Comet Gain in early 1997, four out of the five members continued on to grab England's attention with their new project Velocette. Immediately after they released their first single "Get Yourself Together," the press coverage started pouring in from both NME and Melody Maker -- who placed their aforementioned song as "Single of the Week" not too long after they got their hands on it. After countless gigs and headlining tours all throughout their home land in 1998, their trademark sounds were finally documented on their first full length entitled Fourfold Remedy. Merging elements of crazed rhythms, jazzy beats on top of relaxed folk openings that progress into explosive guitar chords, Velocette take the prize for pulling off their own unique sound. ~ Mike DaRonco, All Music Guide

I'll just add that Comet Gain didn't break up. Sam Pluck, Sarah Bleach, Jax Coombes and Phil Sutton left the original line-up of the band at the end of 1996 to form Velocette. David Christian continued with Comet Gain, who still record to this day. Sutton left Velocette in '97 to form Kicker. Velocette broke up in 2000.

2) Velocette is the nom de record of San Francisco-based ambient techno experimentalist Jason Williams. A member of noted techno producer Jonah Sharp's Reflective Records stable, Williams has released the bulk of his work through the label, including the full-length Sonorities by Starlight and a trio of singles. Wedding minimal, usually electro-derived beats with sparse, atmospheric electronics, Williams' work is as close in feel to '70s space music impressarios like Klaus Schulze and Edgar Froese as to contemporary innovators such as Sharp's Spacetime Continuum, Autechre, MLO, and Move D. Originally a cellist, Williams sold his first instrument to buy a sequencer after being introduced to electronic music through friends. His first EP, "Microcosmik," came out on Reflective in 1994, and was later featured on the celebrated Synoptics compilation. Following live performances at the German Love Parade, as well as at events in San Francisco and Los Angeles, Williams released the Clockwork EP before joining the album-length ranks with Sonorities by Starlight, which critics compared favorably with the likes of B12, Deep Space Network, and Atom Heart. Williams' work was also featured on the Headtravel CD-Plus released by Om Records in 1994. -- Sean Cooper
