'Somewhere along the line Coltrane’s soprano sax runs out of steam. Now it’s McCoy Tyner’s piano solo I hear, the left hand carving out a repetitious rhythm and the right layering on thick, forbidding chords. Like some mythic scene, the music portrays somebody’s - a nameless, faceless somebody’s - dim past, all the details laid out as clearly as entrails being dragged out of the darkness. Or at least that’s how it sounds to me. The patient, repeating music ever so slowly breaks apart the real, rearranging the pieces. It has a hypnotic, menacing smell, just like the forest' - Kafka On The Shore Music, and specifically jazz, has always featured heavily in the literary imagination of Haruki Murakami. In this radio special, NTS lays down two hours of jazz records as featured throughout Murakami's corpus.

Tin Pan Alley

Tin Pan Alley

Tin Pan Alley has been played on NTS in shows including Getting Warmer w/ Jen Monroe, featured first on 15 February 2014. Songs played include 黄昏どき , 妹 and "Sayonara"The Japanese Farewell Song.

Tin Pan Alley (ティン・パン・アレー) was a Japanese city pop group in the 70's.Members were Hosono Haruomi(b),Shigeru Suzuki(g),Tatsuo Hayashi(ds) and Masataka Matsutoya(key).

Tin Pan Alley (錫盤街) is a Taiwanese post rock quartet formed in 2000.

Tin Pan Alley is a Swedish pop band with the members Jörgen Andersson, Sofia Thulin, Linnéa Kuster and Jens Johansson. Jörgen and Jens have both played in various local rock and pop bands, but never together even though they've known eachother for a long time. Late in 1995 they decided to do something together. They began writing a couple of songs, and when they came across the voices of Linnéa and Sofia they knew they were on to something. The band formed in January, 1996.

Their music is very hard to describe. People have compared it to acts like Portishead, Enya, Björk, Saint Etienne, Daybehavior and even Depeche Mode. All this put together makes for a very unique sound that ranges from spooky Twin Peaks atmospheres, harsh drum loops and twisted electronics to (more or less) danceable pop.

The band released their first single, "Star", in November 1999 on the Bonnier Music label. The song was produced by Tin Pan Alley and Eric S at Sidelake Studios in Sundsvall, Sweden.

After two more singles, "My Love Has Got A Gun" and "Not Exactly", the album "Via Copenhagen" was finally released in April of 2001. Later that year the Tin Pan Alley song "Miffed" was featured in the Swedish movie "Känd Från TV", and to coincide with the movie the band released "Ashtray" as a three track single which naturally also included "Miffed" as well as the Mårten Levin-directed video for "Not Exactly".

Tin Pan Alley is an Austrian rock band. Founded in 2002, the are actually on hiatus.

Polish band led by Kuba Ziołek, also of projects such Stara Rzeka, Alameda 3, Hokei, and Innercity Ensemble.
