There are at least three artists named Amanita:
1) Amanita is an American post-rock/progressive metal band from White Lake Township, MI. The band was founded by Jim Tobakos as a solo project, who began playing guitar in 2002. After a string of inconsequential bands, he became involved with the local metal scene, playing in a band called In a White Room. It was then that Tobakos had his first experiences with live shows, recording and interacting with other musicians.
After the disbanding of In a White Room, Tobakos wanted to participate in a band that focused on more than just metal. But with a music scene that is over-saturated with deathcore, it proved difficult for him to find a stable band to play with. It was then that he started Swap.AVI to poke fun at the local scene while still participating in it. During this time, however, Tobakos wanted to put out some serious music as well as his comedic music with Swap.AVI, but his schedule kept him from finding a solid line-up to work with. He then joined Crabhammer and played some shows and wrote some music, but it wasn't music that he was very interested in playing. From that point on, Tobakos began writing solo music, beginning in 2010.
The solo music came easily since he had been collecting music equipment over the years and built a project studio in his home. By this time, he had plenty of recording and programming experience. Since then, he had been consistently writing and recording music until he finally decided to compile the songs into an EP, which he would release as Amanita.
In 2012, Amanita signed to the indie record label, Just Noise Music, which pushed Tobakos to release the EP and do something more with his music hobby. Commenting on the album, Tobakos said, "it digs deep into my brain and brings to life the music that is constantly pounding in my head".
Since then, Amanita has grown even more by establishing a full line-up consisting of Tobakos on guitar and vocals, Aaron Stinson and Jake Reske on guitar, Zech Lakatos on bass and Vince D'Agostino on drums. The band had released a two-track EP in March 2014 called Arduous March.
2) Amanita is also an instrumental doom band from Jena, Germany, which also draws on elements of post rock, psychedelic rock and stoner. They released their first demo in 2014. Their tracks can be listened to for free at Bandcamp.
3) Amanita is an ambient artist. They can be found at Bandcamp
