The Scruffs were Memphis' other great power pop group, lead by singer/guitarist Stephen Burns. Their debut album Wanna Meet The Scruffs? was released in 1977. A second album, Teenage Gurls, was not released until some twenty years later though it had been recorded in the late seventies. Stephen Burns moved to Scotland in the late '90s where he eventually recorded another Scruffs album, Pop Manifesto, which was issued in January of 2007.

There is another band with the same name:

An Australian rock group with a similar power pop and jangle pop based style also used the name 'The Scruffs'. They released some material in the mid-90s, later made available by Not Lame records, before folding.
