Yvonne Gage

Yvonne Gage

Yvonne Gage has been played on NTS in shows including Full Beam! FM , featured first on 11 November 2017. Songs played include Lover Of My Dreams, Doin' It In A Haunted House and Lover Of My Dreams (Instrumental).

b. 1959, Chicago, USA. When aged only 14 Gage joined the Soulettes with whom she stayed until she was 21. During this period they changed their name to First Love and then Love, subsequently recording an album for Chycago International Music in 1980. However, by then Gage had departed to join the backing singers for Captain Sky. She made her solo debut with ‘Garden Of Eve’ in 1981 on Atlantic Records to little reaction. Gage then sang with new wave group Ministry, appearing in shows with Madness, Police and Culture Club. After singing a commercial for Ultra-Curl, she recorded her first album Virginity on CIM/Epic which, like Captain Sky’s records, was produced by Don Burnside. Billed as the unofficial answer to Michael Jackson’s ‘Thriller’, the album track, ‘Doin’ It In A Haunted House’ made the bottom of the US R&B chart and reached the UK Top 50 in June 1984. Simultaneously, another of her singles ‘Lover Of My Dreams’ was also doing well in the UK clubs. However, despite this encouraging start Gage never visited the charts again. She re-appeared in the UK in 1990 on Trax Records but with no further success.
