Dora Lopes was a Brazilian singer and composer, who ran away from home when she was 14 to sing on the radio. She worked for national radio and Mayrink Veiga, toured Europe and later moved to São Paulo, where she lived for the rest of her life. Some of her best known recordings are renditions of "Amor Proibido", "Pó-de-Mico", "Ponto de Encontro", "Velório de Sambista" and "Samba da Madrugada". She died on 24 December 1983.
