Dezider Ursiny a.k.a. Dežo Ursiny (IPA: ['deʒo 'ʊrsini]) (4 October 1947 - 2 May 1995) was a Slovak rock musician and a television and film screenwriter and director. He is regarded as one of the most important personalities of Slovak rock music and one of the most talented and unique Slovak popular music composers. His career started in the mid-1960s as a lead guitarist and singer with the Bratislava band The Beatmen. He founded The Soulmen in 1967 (who released an acclaimed EP the following year) and later fronted his short-lived bands The New Soulmen and Provisorium in the late 1960s, before embarking on a solo career and releasing 12 studio albums. His solo career has been critically acclaimed, but was commercially not successful during his life.
His music gradually developed from guitar driven rock and jazz-rock in his early days into a more minimalist style on his later albums. His first solo album, titled Provisorium, was released in 1973 and is his only album and his last work to be sung in English. From his second album on, he sung exclusively in Slovak. He composed music for several films, including the popular TV musical "Neberte nám princeznú" and also shot a few documentary movies during his lifetime.
