Minus Kendal trods the outer reaches foraging for aural morsels, slinging you a monthly smorgasbord of sultry sonix from trenchcoat folk to silicone synthwave.

New York

There's an old Brian Eno quote that is inevitably referenced when talking about the Velvet Underground - something along the lines of "They only sold 30,000 copies of their first album, but everyone who bought the album started a band". It's slightly inaccurate (they sold a lot more copies), but the message is clear: few bands have had such an outsized, potent, and wide reaching effect on the musicians that followed in their footsteps. Their stubborn desire to continually approach songwriting from the left field, and continuous sonic reinvention reverberated for decades, influencing punk, post-punk, art rock, ambient music, even notably influencing real political revolution in Czechoslovakia. Two hours of The Velvets' best, selected and mixed by Claire Rousay.

Erdbeerschnitzel

Erdbeerschnitzel

Erdbeerschnitzel has been played over 10 times on NTS, first on 5 May 2013. Erdbeerschnitzel's music has been featured on 12 episodes.

Otherwise known as Tim Kelling, Erdbeerschnitzel is a house producer from Mittelfischbach, a lovely German country hamlet that a writer for residentadvisor.net described as "not the middle of nowhere, but almost." Erdbeerschnitzel's first production experience as a young lad as with the Nintendo game Mario Paint. He's come a long way since then, graduating to grandiose big beat and d&b works (as well as experimental works under the The Dark Side of the Meat alias) before settling into his current deep house and nu disco groove in 2009. His rise to prominence since then has been astonishingly swift thanks to his ability to craft lush and lovely tracks garnished with pitchmelted R&B vocal snips and snails. "To think that people sweat it out to the tracks I made sitting in my underpants, is something that puts a big smile on my face."

Let it be known that Erdbeerschnitzel is not a brew and sausage combination; rather it translates to "strawberry schnitzel."
