Kody Nielson (born Carl Kody Nielson 9 May 1982) is a producer, singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. He is the former lead singer and producer of the band The Mint Chicks and producer of Bic Runga's fourth studio album Belle. His current project is Opossom, a psych pop group based in Auckland New Zealand. He has also contributed to the music of and been a vivid part of Unknown Mortal Orchestra, a band led by his brother, Ruban Nielson.
Nielson studied painting and design at Elam School of Fine Arts before his band The Mint Chicks were signed to Flying Nun Records in 2003. In 2006 Nielson won Best Producer at the B-net Music Awards and their sophomore record Crazy? Yes! Dumb? No! gained certified gold status in New Zealand and went on to win five awards at the 2007 New Zealand Music Awards.
He has contributed to the production and writing of many New Zealand records including Jon Toogood of Shihad's solo project The Adults, King Kapisi's Super Human, and the Finn Brothers tribute album He Will Have His Way. He has co-written the tracks Devil On Tambourine, Tiny Little Piece Of My Heart and wrote Darkness All Around Us for Bic Runga.
