Bay Area based rapper Raashan Ahmad is originally from Pasadena, and has been on the grind since his first release as one of the lead M.C.s in the Boston formed group Mission, who released a self titled album in 1999. He's also the front man for the live San Francisco hip-hop group Crown City Rockers who released the album "Earthtones" in 2004. In 2008 his 13 track solo record "The Push" was released on Om Music featuring production from DJ Vadim, Headnodic (of Crown City Rockers/Mighty Underdogs), Stro the 89th Key (of The Procussions), Descry and more. The first single "City Feel Proud" features Chali 2na from the group Jurassic 5, production from Eligh of the Living Legends, and a remix from Quantic.
Raashan Ahmad is an MC with a thriving career as a solo artist and front man for the live hip-hop group Mission/Crown City Rockers. He has garnered critical acclaim from worldwide press such as XXL “Chairman’s Choice”, San Francisco Weekly, and San Francisco Guardian “Best of the Bay”, Top 10 on CMJ, and URB’s prestigious “Next 100” list. Raashan has had music featured in Movies, Video Games and multiple shows on MTV and VH1.
Raashan’s albums The Push and the groundbreaking For What You’ve Lost garnered worldwide attention and earned him the devoted admiration of fans as he has toured feverishly throughout North America, Europe, Japan, Australia, and Brazil. Raashan Ahmad is known for his intimate performance style where he bares all and let’s the audience in on a journey into hip hop, soul, and universal truths that transgress language, culture, and nationality. International tastemaker Gilles Peterson proclaimed For What You’ve Lost’s “Pain on Black” as one of his top ten songs of the year in 2010 and invited Raashan to perform at his World Wide Awards 2011 in London. Add to that a performance on Live Radio Nova’s Nuit Zébrée and an interview and spotlight on France 24 that reached over 20 million viewers—it is clear that Raashan Ahmad has hit his stride.
Raashan has collaborated with the some of music’s brightest and most respected artists including Chali 2na of Jurassic 5, Gift of Gab of Blackalicious, Aloe Blacc (Stones Throw), Greg Errico of Sly and the Family Stone and so many more. Currently working on his next album, expect more genre defying collaborations and another world tour. Stay tuned.
