Elephant9

Elephant9

Elephant9 has been played on NTS in shows including Black Impulse, featured first on 6 July 2019. Songs played include I Cover The Mountain Top and I Cover The Mountain Top.

Elephant9 is a Norwegian progressive jazz rock/fusion band that started in 2006 under the name Storløkken/Eilertsen/Lofthus before changing their name to Elephant9 the same year. Their music is a modern take on 70's fusion and hard rock, influenced by Miles Davis on one end and bands like Emerson, Lake & Palmer and Deep Purple on the other. The hammond driven fusion and analogue instrumental pieces drives their music into focused, structured jams, as well as pushing their music into long stretches of progressive rock in a self-assured way. The band collaborated with Swedish guitarist Reine Fiske of Dungen and The Amazing on their latest album, Atlantis.

Albums (all on Rune Grammofon): Dodovoodoo (2008) Walk the Nile (2010) Live At The BBC (2011, live) Atlantis (2012, released under the name Elephant9 with Reine Fiske) Silver Mountain (2016, released under the name Elephant9 with Reine Fiske)

Members: Ståle Storløkken (Supersilent, Bol, co-operations with Terje Rypdal, Motorpsycho) - Keyboard, hammond organ and synthesizer Nikolai Hængsle Eilertsen (BigBang, The National Bank) - Electric bass, electric guitar Torstein Lofthus (Shining) - Drums
