Leisure Shores is an American psychedelic rock band, composed of vocalist/bassist/guitarist Ben Grosser, vocalist/keyboardist Chase Cantrell, and percussionist/drummer/producer Brock Cantrell.
Originally conceived in 2017 by the Cantrell brothers, after the release of the first album from their band, The MOiDs, Brock and Chase set out to start another project heavily based on theming and psychedelic soundscapes. The duo recruited Grosser, their childhood friend and lifelong musical partner to begin work on their first record together.
By 2018, Leisure Shores had begun work on their first flagship record, 'The Voyage to the Land of Leisure'. Inspired heavily by 1960s psychedelic rock albums blended with bits of progressive rock, the band created an entire new world through creative new sounds. It has been described as "the record Frank Zappa would have written if he had locked the Beach Boys in his basement".
In late 2018, Brock and Chase got together with their friend and artistic collaborator, Tyler Curran, and began pre-production work on the next flagship record. They decided to go deeper into the lore of Leisure Shores by taking an entirely new look at the world around themselves and incorporating it into a psychedelic dystopian sci-fi story. Once pre-production was done, the band began working on incorporating the story elements into an album unlike anything that has existed before. They recruited their other close friend, Taylor Sly (who had previously done many of the group's promo photos and film) to do the ominous narration throughout the record. "The Emotion Machine" was released in spring of 2019 on 'emotionless clear' vinyl.
By 2020, Leisure Shores had three records under their belt and they set out to create two new experiences they dubbed 'mini-LPs' set in the world of Leisure Shores. The first was titled "Mister Mystic's Teardrop Shop" and released January 31. It was the band's attempt at blending progressive rock albums like "In the Court of the Crimson King" with classic psychedelic albums, like "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Heart's Club Band" and "Magical Mystery Tour". Near the end of 2020, the second mini-LP, "The Astronomer's Dream" was released worldwide.
Leisure Shores is currently working on a new full-length LP set to debut in Q2 of 2023. Be on the lookout for more information soon!
