Mississippi Records is an independent archival record label that has been releasing music by totally original (and as a result, often overlooked) artists for nearly 20 years. The label is dedicated to working directly with artists and their families, securing their legal rights, and creating equitable documents of their work to share with the world. Mississippi works across genres, regions, and timelines. The music we’re drawn to is often created outside of existing commercial industries. It’s the work of visionary artists with something urgent and original to say. And it’s sustained by, and in turn nourishes, communities that extend beyond the music. We recognize this brilliant music is not created in a vacuum, and we’re dedicated to understanding and uplifting the stories around the art.

Clandestine record label, The Trilogy Tapes, tear up the NTS studios once a month, ripping through the grittiest and muddiest tracks. No words on this one, just tunes.

Felix Doran

Felix Doran

Felix Doran has been played on NTS shows including NTS Guide to…, with The Fox Hunt first played on 15 November 2019.

The Doran brothers were brought up in Rathnew, Co Wicklow and were direct descendants of the great 19th century travelling Wexford piper John Cash. Johnny died tragically in 1950 aged only 42 but fortunately the Irish Folklore Commission had made recordings of his music in 1947, a year before he was struck down by an accident. These recordings were published by NPU in 1988. Felix Doran spent his early years as a travelling musician, performing extensively all over Ireland before settling down in Manchester in the 1960s. He died in 1972. Recordings of Felix made in the 1960s were published by Topic Records (Felix Doran, The Last of the Travelling Pipers) four years after his death. .
