There are at least several bands named Mordecai:
1) A ramshackle noise rock band from Butte, Montana. The kids in Mordecai can't be a day over 22. They live in Butte, Montana. According to their MySpace comments, they spend a lot of time drinking beer on the street. Their name could be a reference to the hawk in The Royal Tennenbaums or some unselfconscious attempt at being hard. The only thing that's certain is that their music has absolutely no right to be this great. Their tracks sound like the lost recordings of some forgotten early-'80s No Wave act, sprung fully formed from the loins of the lost Asheton brother. Are they the Shaggs or the second coming?
2) Mordecai is a Melodic Black Metal band from Finland - formed in 1998. They have released one little EP, that was featured on a split album and they often have a strong portrayal of a sensational, cold and dark view on Christianity.
The only thing recorded was a four track song on the EP entitled “Immortal Souls - Mordecai” released in 1998 and later split as “Divine Wintertime/Through The woods, Towards The Dawn”. It often reflects stories of how Christ saved them in a cold, winter atmosphere.
For a while they were on a label called Little Rose Productions but, went fully independent. They disbanded from their project right after they released their EP. But, resulted in a highly Swedish-influenced Melodic Black Metal sound of the 90s with strong use of double bass triplets in the vein of Dissection and Vinterland.
The members included: Petri Erkkilä - Lead Vocals, Rhythm Guitar Mika Haara - Lead Guitar, Synth, Clean Vocals, Acoustic Guitar Miika Erkkilä - Bass Matti Vähä-Lassila - Drums Johnny Pesonen - Session Drums
3) Mordecai are a hard rock band from London England.Blending their influences, they have a rich American hard rock sound with a hint of dark British metal.
Band Members: Dan M Hicks : Vocals & Guitar Andy Short : Lead Guitar Rick Kilcher : Bass Alex Gooders : Drums
4) Mordecai is the solo project of 18 year old Payton Collier of Atlanta, Georgia. He decided to name his solo project Mordecai after the famous falcon in The Royal Tenenbaums. Collier started writing in 2008 and has continued his ambient/folk approach with his releases.
He has released five songs available for download on his soundcloud, all of which were written and recorded by himself. Collier has been eyed by The Answer Page frontman Nate McKee and also by birp.fm, where he may soon be featured on an upcoming playlist.
Collier's music tends to be very personal, reflecting events and tragedies from his own life. His music and lyrics often take on a more depressing and ambient feel, although his brighter side can be heard on songs such as 'The Old Tree.'
4) Grime producer from Bristol, UK.
