There's an old Brian Eno quote that is inevitably referenced when talking about the Velvet Underground - something along the lines of "They only sold 30,000 copies of their first album, but everyone who bought the album started a band". It's slightly inaccurate (they sold a lot more copies), but the message is clear: few bands have had such an outsized, potent, and wide reaching effect on the musicians that followed in their footsteps. Their stubborn desire to continually approach songwriting from the left field, and continuous sonic reinvention reverberated for decades, influencing punk, post-punk, art rock, ambient music, even notably influencing real political revolution in Czechoslovakia. Two hours of The Velvets' best, selected and mixed by Claire Rousay.

Wayfarer

Wayfarer

Wayfarer has been played on NTS shows including Goblin Milk, with Vaudeville first played on 3 November 2020.

There are multiple bands / artists by the name of Wayfarer;

1) WAYFARER is the pre-eminent Western American Metal band. Comprised of four black clad players from Denver, Colorado, the band’s sound draws from the deep wells of black metal, gothic country, and americana - creating a thunderous and uniquely American genre of metal all to their own. Through a storm of riffing and unrelenting atmosphere, the band creates a sound that feels at once archaic and elemental, and ultimately human.

A reflection of the Rocky Mountains and high plains of their native Colorado, the band tells a story that is uniquely American. Drawing influence as much from the dusty, dark Americana of the “Denver Sound” and the scores of epic westerns as they do the fury and melody of black metal; Wayfarer brings something original to the table with a sound that is at once aggressive and honest.

2) Wayfarer is a punk rock band from Kitchener, Ontario, Canada.

After self-releasing a few EPs in the past year and half, they are releasing their first full-length digitally in March via Juicebox Recording Co. and physically in May on Tragicomedy Records.

3) Wayfarer is a metallic hardcore band from the south of the UK.

They are strongly influenced by the writings of the Prose Edda, which features as a consistent lyrical theme throughout. Their sound is simliar to that of late 90's clevo bands such as Integrity and In Cold Blood.

4) Wayfarer is the electro-acoustic music of Miami-based Composer, Producer, Video Artist, and Professor, Lawrence W. Moore.

Wayfarer music spans the imaginative entertainment created for the wanderer of the 21st century to music created for meditation.

5) Wayfarer is a progressive/post-metal project from the Puget Sound area in Washington state.

The project started as an instrumental solo project of David Reiman, but is expanding to feature vocalists including Ian Robertson of Entities,Jordan Ibarra of Aristeia,and Howie Favichia of Lifeforms, with plans to expand the project to a full band with other members and release an EP.

6) Wayfarer is a UK bass music artist from Nottingham, England. This project started at the beginning of 2012 aiming to create organic, sub-bass-heavy dancefloor music.

7) Wayfarer is a Seattle Washington modern folk band that plays repurposed hymns and spiritual songs. Modern music, classic words. Wayfarer features former members of the band Sherwood.
