“I start associating your voice with ….”, for a while ML has been part of the NTS community, jingling around, airing his monthly 150 Session out of Berlin’s North, where all seasons give reasons. For clarification, creation, inspiration. One hour of poetic and musical explorations, questions, and curiosities. Circling around daring electronics, ethno-sonics, jazz-constructivism, minimalism, open structured digital dopamine, risky dub excitement and other sounds, that still need to be written. No country, no flag – outernational without a cause!

Pretty Boy Crossover

Pretty Boy Crossover

Pretty Boy Crossover has been played on NTS shows including Otologic, with Audio Letters first played on 22 November 2020.

Prettyboy Crossover began in 1996 as a side-project for Jason Sweeney, who at the time was writing and playing in various bands in Adelaide, Australia, some pop, some experimental.

In 1998, Jason met Cailan Burns, a visual artist / designer / illustrator / electronic music boy - and the crossover began. First of all as a electronica-based radio show, then into a recording project.

During this time Jason had already compiled tracks (the majority of which had been used in short films, theatre performance, live club events and art installations) which eventuated into the debut CD, ‘System Soundtracks 01’ in 1998 on the Pleasurecraft label.

In 1999 Prettyboy Crossover were approached by Autechre’s label, Skam, based in Manchester, UK and were meant to release with them but it fell through. Adelaide-based label, Surgery, came to the rescue, signed ‘em up and here they are. The LP, “The Building & Formation” the first for Surgery, with an upcoming new LP soon. Two side releases include the newly released ep+remixes “Any Number Can Play”, and a special 12” vinyl-only issue tracks taken from “The Building & Formation” on Optikut Records.

In 2001 Sensory Projects began working with the duo and in 2004 the next LP, 'Always Buildings, Always Cities' was released. In 2004 Prettyboy Crossover began a recording relationship with COCOSOLIDCITI, based in Canada/France/UK. The 2005 LP, 'We Are All Drifting' will be released as a 2CD/DVD project with video artist, Julio Soto.

At other times, Jason records with Nicole Lowrey (Toupee) - with some added help from Cailan, as Other People’s Children (releases on Morr Music and Library Records) - and Jason also has some jangle pop electronica with Simpatico, a kind of ‘solo’ outfit that records for American label, Matinee Recordings - as well as… too many other side-projects.

Jason also makes soundtracks for film, dance and theatre around Australia. Cailan is also a renown designer and illustrator and has been published worldwide.

The duo take their name from the cyberpunk short story by Pat Cadigan.
