In our first show for NTS dubbed shellac session #1, we present a journey into a collection of 60-70 year old music with powerful rhythms from the Brazilian North East.
Digitalized in the 1990s at CCSP in São Paulo from pre-vinyl shellac 78 rounds-per-minute records, the sound quality of the CCSP public collection far exceeds what you will expect to find from pre-vinyl media.
The songs for Shellac Sessions are used with kind permission from City Hall of the city of São Paulo / Municipal Department of Culture and Oneyda Alvarenga Collection / São Paulo Cultural Centre, CCSP.
The tunes are centered around the artist Jackson do Pandeiro and his contemporaries and varies from coco to forro to baiao and samba.
